Next club meeting Monday 5^th March 2006.

• This will be a talk on Banknotes by Michael Gouby, one of our own!

Meetings are held at the Abbey Baptist Church, Abbey Square, commencing at 7.00 p.m.

February Meeting

The last meeting was the annual club auction. This years auction recorded a very similar result to last years with some 213 lots realising £1751-75. A total of £223.94 was raised for Club funds by a combination of commision and donations.

The top prices obtained on the night were as follows:-

• 1909 Sovereign EF £76
• 1886 Sovereign F £73
• A quantity of mixed copper and silver in various grades £71
• A mixture of 130 silver coins, some in high grade £82

At the other end of the scale two lots sold for 20p each - a medallion and paperweight and a group of three silver threepences. Unfortunately, as last year, a significant 35% of lots (74 in all) did not sell.

There was an excellent turnout of 29 members and two guests and of those, 22 members bought at least one lot.

Other than those who have already been paid, vendors due monies from the sale of their lots will find a cheque enclosed with this newsletter

Skittles evening

Provisionally we have a date of 12th May for the skittles evening at the Red Lion at Theale. We will be asking members to indicate if they wish to attend at the next meeting.

10 years ago was an evening of Short Talks by Members, including Michael Broome's last talk to the club, fittingly on the Maria Theresa thaler.

20 years ago was a club coin fair.
