2007 Display Competition for the
Michael Broome Memorial Cup
The annual display competition attracted three entries of a very commendable standard. The competition entries, introduced with a few words from the exhibitors, were, as follows:
'Images of Victoria' Kay
The first display was by new member Kay who displayed an amazing array of portraits of Queen Victoria on both coins and medals. She gave a brief resume of the portraits, their artists and their applications.

'' Graham
The second display was of three Greek tetradrachms which Graham Kirby had always wanted and finally acquired. They were tetradrachms of Syracuse, of Athens (the famous owl, complete with test cuts and banker’s mark) and Tyre (now thought to be referred to in the Bible as one of the ‘thirty pieces of silver’ rather than the denarius of Tiberius). He explained why they were significant to him especially and to the World at large.

'The Planned Coronation of Edward VIII' Gavin
The third display was by Gavin Scott showing medals of Edward VIII. Because Edward abdicated his coins are relatively rare – portrait coins especially so, but portrait medals having been prepared in advance are relatively easy to obtain and relatively cheap. He gave a brief resume and then the displays were voted on.

The standard of all three displays was very good and a credit to the entrants. It must have been a difficult decision for members as to where to cast their votes. However, the winner of the M Broome trophy was Kay.
Well done.
