February meeting.

This was the Club Quiz night. The Quiz was set by Alistair McKay who would normally be the Quizmaster, but he was unavailable and the duty was taken by Michael. An excellent set of questions arranged by Alistair and the Club sends their thanks.

The members were divided into 4 teams of 4 players. The first round was the identification of coins. Most of them obscure and from the Middle East. The second round was the identification of English tokens, then three rounds of questions with four questions for each team per round.

One of the coins was from Algeria:-

One of the tokens was from Walthamstow:-

The maximum number of points a team could win from their questions was 40. The team could earn extra points by answering correctly, questions that could not be answered by the teams that they were first put to.

Frank's team won with a points total of 36. The team members were Frank, John, Ian and John. Well done that team. Each member received a small prize.

Thirty members turned up for Marion Archibald's talk about a 15C. Scottish merchant, named Halliberton, who traded in the Netherlands. He kept a ledger of the various coins that he received and the amount allowed against each coin. This list is useful in that it gives an account of the coins that circulated and the value of them against other coins.
