December 29th 2000.

Next club meeting Monday 8th January 2001.

Meetings are held at the Abbey Baptist Church, Abbey Square, commencing at 7.00 p.m.

November meeting.

For the second month in a row our speaker failed to show, which I cannot recall ever happening before. However, we were forewarned that John Keyworth might not be able to make it so your committee had contingency plans in place. A quiz was organised by Michael and John, with Michael acting as quizmaster and John keeping the score.

The quiz was loosely based on the television series "Who Wants to be a Millionaire". Unfortunately we didn't have a "Million" up for grabs, just lots of good fun. Those present were split into two almost equal teams and questions were worth 1,2,4,8 and 16 points, with a supplementary question involving the identification of a coin, worth another 5 points and some Devilish coins there were.

Nobody got the maximum 36 points, though one or two came close. Your secretary, much to his chagrin, came bottom of the pile with 1 point!

We are hoping John Keyworth will be able to give his lecture in February, replacing the quiz planned for that night, though this is not confirmed yet.

Maurice provided the Members Display with a collection of banknotes.

There were four dealer tables open and sixteen members attended.

Raffle

John ran the raffle, which was won by John who received £10.

Phil Wainwright

Phil (due to talk to us in March next year) has an article in the December issue of Treasure Hunting, called An Introduction to Celtic Coins.

Our archives appear to be missing copies of the meeting notices for December 1980 and January 1981. If any member can supply me with a copy I would be most grateful.

The Season of Goodwill is almost upon us again, so may I take this opportunity of wishing you all a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
