August 21st. 1999

Next club meeting Monday 6th, September 1999.

At Reading Library, Kings Road. Entrance off Abbey Square.

Meeting commences at 7.00pm.

August 1st. Summer meeting

Michael & his wife Val, hosted the summer meeting on Sunday August 1st at their house. This was a meeting with a difference. A car treasure hunt was organised by Michael. The route was a circular drive from Michael's house to Theale and back. Along the route there were clues to be found such as pub signs, road signs and house features. Most of these clues had a numismatic connection in the answer.

Three teams arrived at Michael's house and set off around 1.30pm in the afternoon.

The teams were,

A. John and Jean with Mark and Jean

B. John and Kay with their friend Sylvia.

C. Ken and Joyce with David and Lucy.

Afterward there was tea and cakes at Michael and Val's when the papers were marked and there was a general discussion of the questionnaire. Team C came first with 51 points out of a maximum of 60. A very enjoyable afternoon. Thank you to Michael for the organisation and to Val for the refreshments.

September Meeting.

This is a showing of Archive film from the Royal Mint by Kevin Clancy. Those Club members who visited the Royal Mint will remember this archive film which was shown then and Kevin Clancy who helped to entertain the club on that visit. The Archive film has been collected from many sources and gives a view of the royal mint from many different aspects.

This film has been added to since we last viewed it. The club was informed on the visit that there was much more material available to include in the film but it had not been completely inspected and edited. This is an ideal opportunity to see the minting of coins and medals as never before.

There will also be the usual dealer tables open.

Membership cards.

Membership cards are included for all those members who have paid the subscriptions.

If you have not paid yours now is the time !!!!!

Library.

Now is the first opportutnity to see the new library cupboard. Thank you to Maurice for housing the Club's library while Reading Library refused to let us keep it on their premises.

Michael Broome Catalogues.

We have a number of catalogues from Murial Broome. There has been quite a lot of interest expressed by club Members in these catalogue, so, not to disappoint anyone we will auction them at the September meeting. We do not expect to make a lot of money.

The catalogues will probably be bundled into a number of groups, each group of a similar content, ie. Islamic German etc before auctioning. If you want to bid and cannot get to the meeting call a committee member to enter your bid.
